Wilsonart Adhesives History


1970 Adhesives manufacturing is added to Ralph Wilson Plastics with the purchase of Southern General Adhesives located in Denham Springs, Louisiana.
1985 A new adhesive manufacturing and R&D facility is built in Temple, Texas.
1987 Polyvinyl Acetate (PVA) adhesives are introduced to product line. These are also known as “white glues”. PVAs provided an alternative to contact adhesives. PVAs are water-based glues that have lower VOCs, easier clean-ups, less offensive odors and are urea-formaldehyde free.
1989 Water-based Contact Adhesive is introduced at Louisiana facility. Water-based Contact Adhesive is a non-flammable contact adhesive that is designed for operations where the use of flammable solvents are prohibited or regulated by local air quality restrictions.
1991 Wilsonart Adhesives become available to retail.
1993 Wilsonart 3000 adhesive added to PVA line, becoming the first postforming PVA adhesive for Wilsonart Adhesives.
1997 Aerosol adhesive is introduced.
1999 Wilsonart becomes part of the ITW family, when Premark merges with Illinois Tool Works, Inc.
2001 Adhesive facilities merge into Temple, Texas location.
2007 PVAs and WA H2O receive GREENGUARD certification, contributing to better indoor air quality.
2008 Wilsonart Color Caulk introduced
